AmeriCredit Auto LoansNow, GM Financial!

AmeriCredit auto loans are an excellent source for money if you are in the market for a new or used car. They have an excellent program for buying new cars that allows consumers with low credit scores to get low single digit rates on new Chevrolet vehicles.

How about rates as low as 2.2% for a brand new Chevy Malibu or 2.8% for a brand new Chevy Cobalt? Pretty darn good if you've got a 500 credit score. More on this below.

AmeriCredit Auto Loans Overview

AmeriCredit auto loans are great for customers that have credit, but maybe not the best credit. They are not looking to finance customers with exclusively bad credit and do like to see some sort of well paid credit in the past and presently. Here are a few of their guidelines:

  • $2,000 minimum monthly income.
  • Prefer 1 year job history.
  • Prefer 1 year residence history.
  • No credit scores below 500.
  • Prefer at least 3 years of credit and 5 lines of credit.
  • Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcies must be discharged.
  • Cannot currently be involved in credit counseling.
  • Must be able to pass a standard ID check.

In order to fund AmeriCredit auto loans, they will need to get some basic information from you to prove what is on your application.

  • Proof of Income
  • Proof of Residence
  • Full Coverage Insurance
  • Minimum of 3 References

Everything they are looking for is fairly basic, but required, so be sure you head to the dealership prepared.

Credit Bureaus

AmeriCredit uses both Equifax and Transunion when reviewing your credit file and which one they use will be determined by where you live.

If you live in CA, NV, UT or AZ, then AmeriCredit will use Transunion. In 21 other states mostly northern and northeastern states Equifax is used as well. Everywhere else will use Equifax.

As mentioned before, you'll need a minimum credit score of 500 to even be considered for AmeriCredit auto loans. If you are not sure what your score is, you can Get Your Credit Score

New Car Loans

Now that AmeriCredit Financial has been acquired by GM Financial, they have quite a few good programs being offered on new Chevy vehicles.

They offer their subvented auto loan rates, which were touched on a bit above. The subvention program allows approved customers (with credit scores as low as 500) to qualify for special low rates.

If you choose the special low rates, you will forfeit any rebates that are available, so that's something to consider before you sign the contract.

Another way that AmeriCredit auto loans are unique, is that they are also offering down payment assistance on select new Chevy vehicles. The down payment assistance can help to make up for the loss of the rebate with the special low rate APR.

Used Car Loans

AmeriCredit used car loans were their bread and butter for a long time prior to their acquisition by GM Financial and are still a strong suit.

The basics from above still apply and they will loan on vehicles with less than 80,000 miles and up to 7 years old.

It is possible to do no money down Americredit auto loans, but it's easier to put a deal together if you are able to bring some cash to the table. In addition, they will finance extended warranties and GAP insurance.

Their auto loan rates will vary and they use a computer scoring model to determine each separate buyers rate. Credit score is one of the factors, but not the only factor.

Apply for Your Loan

To apply for AmeriCredit auto loans, you will need to work with one of their dealer partners. This is very common with most subprime auto lenders. It's just too difficult to loan money directly to the customer in these types of situations.

This isn't a bad thing however, because working with a dealership may also have the added benefit of finding an even better financing source.

AmeriCredit Financial is great and all, but if you can find a lender that will give you the same loan with an even lower rate, then that's really great!

Fill out this simple, 60 second no obligation auto loan application and a loan specialist in your local area will be in touch with you shortly to discuss the details of your loan.
